  • 1 lb ground chicken, turkey, or beef (Halal-certified)
  • 12 small flour tortillas (soft taco size)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or cooking spray
  • 1 packet of taco seasoning (make sure it’s Halal-certified)
  • 1/2 cup water (for taco seasoning)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or any cheese of your choice)
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes (fresh or canned)
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1/4 cup sour cream (optional)
  • 1/4 cup salsa (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro (optional)
  • Sliced jalapenos (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin (optional, for added flavor)
  • A pinch of sea salt (optional)

Ingredient Highlights

  • Ground Chicken or Beef: Choose Halal-certified ground meat for the best taste and to meet your dietary needs. Ground turkey or chicken offers a lighter alternative to beef if desired.
  • Taco Seasoning: Taco seasoning is packed with flavor and spices that make the filling taste just like traditional tacos. If you prefer, you can make your own seasoning mix with chili powder, garlic powder, cumin, paprika, and salt.
  • Tortillas: Using small flour tortillas makes it easy to create individual cups. If you prefer a different type of tortilla, feel free to use corn tortillas or gluten-free varieties.
  • Cheese: A sprinkle of cheese adds that perfect creamy texture and melts beautifully on top of the taco cup filling.
  • Toppings: Toppings like lettuce, tomatoes, cilantro, and sour cream make the taco cups even more flavorful and refreshing.

Instructions

Prepare the Taco Cup Base:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a muffin tin with olive oil or cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Cut the Tortillas: Using a round cookie cutter or a glass, cut your tortillas into circles that are just slightly larger than the muffin tin cups. You’ll need one circle per taco cup.
  3. Form the Taco Cups: Press each tortilla circle into the muffin tin, gently shaping it to form a cup. If the edges puff up during baking, simply press them down with the back of a spoon. Bake the tortilla cups for 8-10 minutes, or until golden and crispy.

Cook the Taco Meat:

  1. Cook the Ground Meat: While the tortilla cups are baking, heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground chicken, turkey, or beef and cook until fully browned and cooked through. Stir occasionally to break up the meat.
  2. Add Taco Seasoning: Once the meat is cooked, add the taco seasoning and water to the pan. Stir to combine, allowing the mixture to simmer for about 5 minutes or until thickened.

Assemble the Taco Cups:

  1. Fill the Tortilla Cups: Once the tortilla cups are crispy and golden, remove them from the oven and spoon the seasoned meat mixture into each cup. Fill them up generously.
  2. Top with Cheese: Sprinkle shredded cheese on top of each filled taco cup, and return them to the oven for 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Add the Toppings:

  1. Finish with Fresh Toppings: Once the cheese has melted, remove the taco cups from the oven. Top each cup with diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, sour cream, salsa, chopped cilantro, and any other toppings you like.

Serve:

  1. Serve Immediately: Serve your Easy Taco Cups hot from the oven, ready to be enjoyed by everyone!
